Stockatlass editorial. Educational information, not investment advice. A company headline can reach an overseas reader long after its first release. For Australian share research, start with the exchange announcement and keep a record of when it appeared. An article's publication date and the period described inside a company report answer different questions. ASX's investor FAQ explains where to find both current and historical company announcements. It also distinguishes the full announcement history from the price-sensitive notices shown in an investor's watchlist. A filtered alert can help you notice a document; it is not the whole research record. BHP’s operational review released on 20 October offers a practical example. It covers the quarter ended 30 September, while its discussion of first potash production at Jansen refers to a future target. Put the reporting period and the forecast in separate notes. A document can contain both completed-period information and expectations. Build a short reading trail. Record the company name, release date, document title and original link. Open the complete announcement and its attachments. Separate what has happened from what management expects, and note any conditions attached to a proposed agreement or project. Then search the same company's later announcements for a clarification, changed timetable or additional detail. When comparing an update with an older report, check that both refer to the same period and business scope. Keep questions you cannot resolve beside the source rather than replacing them with assumptions. A concise research note should allow another reader to retrace the documents you used. An official announcement is evidence to evaluate, not a promise about the next share-price move. Sources checked: 2026-10-22 (Asia/Kolkata).
